Army/Marine units assigned to DOWNFALL
This area of the website deals with Army and Marine units that were scheduled to take part in the DOWNFALL operations. It is organized into three sections.
Operation OLYMPIC order of battle described in two parts. The first is the high level version showing the major units assigned to make the assault, the and the divisions in reserve, and “F” Corps which was to relieve the V Amphibious Corps. The second part is the more detailed order of battle listing combat units assigned to the assault.
Operation CORONET is also described in two parts, based on the staff study that was completed just before war’s end. Again there is a high level order of battle and a more detailed version. The more detailed version specified the type of units with out designation.
The third section, REDEPLOYMENT, identifies ground units that were in the redeployment pipeline. While the divisions were identified in the planning documents, there is a long list of supporting units that were also in motion to the Pacific at war’s end.
